Figure of Peace
Written by Ed Schroeter and Directed by Phil Oakley
Featuring Amy Fort and Richard Plant
World Premiere!

A play and short workshops geared to school audiences
October 10-12 and October 16-18, 2007

Dear Educators,

It’s September 2007. A young graffiti artist who believes that Canada’s
involvement in Afghanistan is morally wrong has dedicated herself to
reversing Canada’s commitment to what she considers an "unjust" cause.
She decides that the best way to influence Canadians is to spray paint
anti-war art on The Peterborough Citizen’s War Memorial in Confederation Park.
Just as she is about to "write her piece" on the Cenotaph, along comes
an 82-year-old Second World War veteran, active member of the local branch
of the Royal Canadian Legion, and who has served on the Cenotaph
Committee.  As these two unique and disparate characters engage,
audiences will come to expect the unexpected, because they have more in
common that at first it seems … Join us for the World Premiere of this
intimate and surprising drama from the pen of 4-time national
award-winning Peterborough playwright Ed Schroeter.
It sparkles with warmth and humour.

Heritage Pavilion Stage of Peterborough is pleased to bring your students this open-air dramatic presentation which commemorates the anniversary of World War I battles and examines freedom of expression, the experience of war, and memories... The play will be produced in Confederation Park (across from Peterborough City Hall at the War Memorial created by Walter Allward, sculptor of the Vimy Ridge memorial in France. Following the play there will be a short Q&A with the cast.

In addition, after the play students will attend one 50-minute workshop – visual arts (Art Gallery of Peterborough), visual arts (John Climenhage), drama (Phil Oakley), writing (Frank Flynn).
Some workshops will tie the play to Allward’s other work – Vimy Ridge and his drawings.

This professionally-produced, fast-paced, curriculum-linked, 40-minute  play, written by Peterborough playwright and elementary school teacher Ed Schroeter, is geared to students in Grades 4 to 10.
